Hibiki harmony wrap1/10/2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() This expression is somehow both completely on brand, and still a major (and delicious) divergence from the typical taste profile. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Japan frequently before I moved here, and even luckier to remember when you could just buy Hibiki 17 at bars for basically nothing (especially on the company card), so I’m pretty familiar with the brand. This whiskey is not going to last me very long. As soon as I identify a flavor to focus in on, it’s gone. Otherwise, the finish is sweet and frighteningly short. This sugar carries through the finish.įinish: Some slight booze on the finish, surprisingly. A drop of water, and some additional time (maybe about 45 minutes at this point), bring out more candied sugar from the regular Hibiki Japanese Harmony line. It tastes more like the smell of freshly chipped wood that’s maybe not completely cured. Wood, but not oak, I feel like I need to make that clear. It’s easily the most floral whiskey I’ve ever tasted. The taste follows the aroma, but in a more pronounced way. Water accentuates the fresh appley/woody notes. A subtle, diverse aroma to make the Japanese proud. A little bit of a mossy undertone, which while it provides balance, I’m hoping doesn’t strengthen over time. Fresh, but not like cut grass, more like ripe, sweet apples. ![]() Nose: As intended, the floral aroma is apparent from the moment you approach the glass. Added a drop of water for review purposes. My guess is it’s a blend of Hibiki whiskeys finished in sakura casks, and of regular Hibiki whiskey, because Nomunication says as much, but I’ll say websites reporting the release of Blossom Harmony are inconsistent on that detail. The use of sakura casts is a first for the Hibiki brand, according to Nomunication, and the official release. 86 proof blend of Hibiki whiskey finished in sakura casks (aka cherry tree). Typically impossible to find under $400 in Tokyo, though. With its subtle, tender long finish, it has a hint of Mizunara (Japanese oak). Its palate has a honey like sweetness, candied orange peel, and white chocolate. On the nose are notes of rose, lychee, a hint of rosemary, mature woodiness and sandalwood. Seductive, blossoming and enigmatic, Hibiki Whisky celebrates an unrivalled art of blending, fine craftsmanship and a sense of luxury from the House of Suntory Whisky. This whisky has an elegant expression, with wafts of honey, orange, an herbaceous touch or two with light oak and an amber colour. Hibiki Whisky is a harmonious blend of numerous malt and grain whiskies which are meticulously blended to create a full orchestra of flavours and aromas.
